Engineering Education<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sparetherock.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/frontsmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"frontsmall\" src=\"http:\/\/sparetherock.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/frontsmall-300x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a>On July 3, Spare the Rock Records will release\u00a0<strong><em>Science Fair<\/em><\/strong>, eighteen exclusive tracks themed around and benefiting science and engineering education for girls. \u00a0The album will feature new and exclusive music from artists including\u00a0<strong>Mates of State<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Laura Veirs<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Moona Luna<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Pistolera<\/strong>\u2018s kids\u2019 music incarnation),\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Mitchell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Frances England<\/strong>,<strong>Wunmi<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Babe the Blue Ox<\/strong>, and many more. \u00a0(The track listing is below.)<\/p>\n<p>Extensive research shows that girls, from rural areas to the suburbs to the inner cities, aren\u2019t getting the foundational education they need to get into science fields when they grow up, and so women are significantly underrepresented in science-related fields. \u00a0The same research shows that girls are persistently given the message \u2014 explicitly or implicitly \u2014 that they can\u2019t do science. \u00a0<em>Science Fair<\/em>\u00a0will be part of changing that, both through the message of the record itself and through the financial contributions it will generate, supporting Girls Inc.\u2019s programs improving girls\u2019 science education.<\/p>\n<p><em>Science Fair<\/em>\u00a0will be the second release from Spare the Rock Records. \u00a0In 2010, in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the label released\u00a0<strong><em>Many Hands: Family Music for Haiti<\/em><\/strong>, a benefit for the Haitian People\u2019s Support Project. \u00a0Many Hands brought together nearly two dozen artists, including\u00a0<strong>Dan Zanes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Pete Seeger<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>They Might Be Giants<\/strong>,<strong>Elizabeth Mitchell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Coulton<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lunch Money<\/strong>, and many more. \u00a0<strong><em>Many Hands<\/em><\/strong>, named the best family music release of 2010 by Amazon and other sources, has raised $50,000 for Haitian relief.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Science Fair<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0has as producers Elizabeth Mitchell, Molly Ledford (Lunch Money), Dean Jones (Dog on Fleas), and Bill Childs (owner of Spare the Rock Records). \u00a0Cover art was donated by El Lohse (<a href=\"about:blank\">http:\/\/artbyel.com).<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0Songs cover myriad subjects, from Marie Curie to butterflies to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.<\/p>\n<p>As with\u00a0<strong><em>Many Hands<\/em><\/strong>, after-tax profits will be donated, with Girls Inc.\u2019s science education program the beneficiary. \u00a0The release will be available in physical form (distributed by E1) and digitally (at all the usual places).<strong><strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tracks (final sequence)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Babe the Blue Ox \u2013 Surfin\u2019 Minnesota<\/li>\n<li>Moona Luna \u2013 H2O<\/li>\n<li>The Deedle Deedle Dees and IMPACT Repertory Theatre \u2013 Time Machine<\/li>\n<li>Frances England \u2013 Goldilocks Zone<\/li>\n<li>The Nields \u2013 Butterfly Zone<\/li>\n<li>Laura Veirs \u2013 Little Black Rock<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth Mitchell \u2013 Phytoplankton<\/li>\n<li>Mates of State \u2013 I Am a Scientist<\/li>\n<li>Wunmi \u2013 Rainbow<\/li>\n<li>Cat &amp;
