Howdy, Charlottesville!

Jan 04

I’m super pleased to announce that a new station — 106.1 The Corner, in Charlottesville, Virginia — has picked up the show!  The Corner is a commercial AAA station not unlike the River, with a real commitment to community and an eclectic playlist.  They’ll be airing the show Sunday mornings starting this weekend.

Adding them into our current affiliates, Spare the Rock is now heard on five stations, two commercial and three non-commercial!  Here’s when you can hear us, all times local:

The show is distributed by PRX, and you can listen on demand at their website too.  And if you know of a radio station where we’d be a great fit, let me know (show AT sparetherock DOT com) or send them to our syndication information page!

KidVid Tournament Round 1: Pete Seeger Regionals #4 vs. #1

Mar 22

I’m pleased as punch (assuming punch is indeed pleased) to be hosting part of Zooglobble’s friendly annual family music video competition here. Here’s the first of two matchups for you today; you have until midnight tonight to vote. Feel free to comment, but the only official count is the poll at the end of the post.

Keller Williams, “Hula Hoop To Da Loop” (1) vs. Justin Roberts, “Obsessed by Trucks” (4)

And up second:

Recess Monkey, “Black Hole in My Room” (2) vs. Jamie Broza, “Waters of March” (3)

Exclusive: New Gustafer Yellowgold Video!

Feb 05

We’re taking part in the weeklong celebration of All Things Gustafer Yellowgold (at least All Things Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock), which means today — and today only — you get to see a preview of the video for the song “Cheddar” (also played on today’s show).  Check it out:

(Note that use of the song does not imply any endorsement of the Green Bay Packers, although I am, kinda, rooting for them tomorrow.)

Pre-order the CD/DVD set either through their online store or through a little outfit called Amazon.

At the Carle…and at the Pines…and at Taste of Amherst

Jun 18

Quick reminder about tomorrow’s show and a longer-term reminder to jot some things down on your calendar.

First, tomorrow at 1, we’ve got Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem playing the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.  Tickets are just $6 at the door, and benefit the Northampton Community Music Center.  This is a must-see band, and if you’ve seen them, you must see them again.

We’ve also got most of the next season lined up:

8.7.10 • Princess Katie & Racer Steve

10.23.10 • Gustafer Yellowgold

1.22.11 • Royal Order of Chords & Keys

3.12.11 • Debbie & Friends

Also, this Sunday, Mister G, Primate Fiasco, and School for the Dead will be on the River Soundstage at Taste of Amherst for the Meltdown afternoon.  Free music for the whole family!

Finally, and I’ll write a lot more about this, especially once we confirm the rest of the lineup, but on September 26 at the Pines Theater, we’ll have a CD release show for the Many Hands CD, featuring Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem and the Deedle Deedle Dees.  As alluded to, there will be more on that lineup — some pretty amazing additions, I hope — but for now, just be sure to write that date down.
