Upcoming Things...

Lots of stuff on the big show:

- This week, we've got a guest DJ set by local hero Aric Bieganek. Aric and his band, the Royal Order of Chords and Keys, will be playing at the Eric Carle Museum on Saturday, October 24, kicking off our series benefiting the Northampton Community Music Center.

- Next week (10/10), we'll have a guest DJ set by Laura Doherty. She's playing a benefit for Noho Pride on Thursday, October 15.

- The next week (10/17), we'll have a guest DJ set by Uncle Rock. He and his band the Playthings will be playing the next day (10/18) in the next in the No Nap Happy Hour series.

- The week after that (10/24), we'll have an in-studio with Dan Zanes, who's playing two shows at the UMass Fine Arts Center the night before (10/23). We will also have a pair of tickets to give away to that show, by the way.

- That same week (10/24), we'll have an in-studio by Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion, who have a great kids' CD coming out late this month. (More on that to come.)

- And on Halloween, we'll have an in-studio with local hero Tom Knight, who's playing a bunch of shows around town.

The calendar is always available over in the right-hand column with these and more events. Rock on completely!

Did I Mention?

A. Stefan is running a poll to get one set of answers to the question "What are the best kids' albums of all time?" Go vote. I haven't yet and I might not, to be honest, but that's because of the largeness of the task and my inability to focus.

B. This Saturday: guest DJ set from Keith Munslow! He's playing at the Cup & Top Cafe next Thursday in a free after-school show. If you haven't seen him live, you should. He's a bucket o' fun.

C. Also this Saturday, the first of what might be a series of "Playing on the Patio" performances with Ratboy Jr. It is exactly what it sounds like -- the band playing on our patio. You can even hear lawnmowers in the background!

The Dees!

What a great, fun, moving, hilarious and just plain energetic show the Deedle Deedle Dees put on today at the Iron Horse. I will post some pictures later (probably on our Facebook page), but for now, you can check out this video of their new song, "Susan B. Anthony," off their forthcoming record, "American History + Rock 'n' Roll = The Deedle Deedle Dees," due out on Halloween.

This song, as long-time listeners know, is based on a time in my elementary school days when we were assigned to do a book report about a biography. I chose Susan B. Anthony. After it was done, the teacher notified us that we'd be expected to present the book report to the class dressed as the subject of the biography. And that's how I ended up wearing a dress to school. I mentioned this in passing to Lloyd once, and this song was born.

Thanks to everyone who came out, and special thanks to the Dees for putting on such a great show in tribute to David Banigan-White. We raised a bunch of money to support cooperative arts and music in the Valley, had a fun party in his memory, and all left smiling, even if we cried a little too.

Today! Deedle Deedle Dees!

2:00 (1:30 doors) at the Iron Horse Music Hall. Family 4-pack is just $30, or individual tickets will be $13 at the door. (Infants free.) You will not see a better live band for kids, and it's for a great cause (supporting family music and arts in the Valley, in honor of the memory of David Banigan-White).

Also, I will be on stage providing backing vocals to the "Susan B. Anthony" song.

Rock!

What's that big thing over there on the right?

Why, that's a logo from the NAPPA Awards. We just got word today that the show is a Gold Award winner. The awards will be announced formally in November. Hooray!
