Clearly, Sasha and Malia need to listen to our show

...because this lineup, well, kind of blows. Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato? Come on. Even with it being aired on Disney, why not some other Disney acts - Ralph's World? TMBG?

Bleh.

Ella's thinking about writing to the Obama kids; maybe this will be the trigger.

I'm floored that they would have Hannah Montana. The Jonas Brothers I can kind of get behind. Have you seen/heard them? They're not terrible.

Dan Zanes should be there!

I have seen the Jonas Brothers, briefly, sometime. Less awful than they could be, yes. But they're not change I can believe in.

I'm surprised that whoever's planning this event doesn't have a better handle on what's great for kids. Maybe not too surprised, but sorta sad. There's an opportunity there. I hope Ella writes that letter...

Aw, c'mon, guys -- I know this is all in jest, but they're 7 and 10... totally not surprised.

A couple weeks ago, the Post suggested the Sippy Cups. Guess the folks didn't take 'em up on their suggestion...

I'm not jesting, and I'm mere weeks away from having 7 and 10 year olds. Given the type of campaign Obama ran, I'm genuinely surprised that they're making such obvious picks. It wasn't a Disney-style campaign, and I would have expected them to include at least one more surprising/interesting/indie act.

I'm geniunely not surprised.

Take a look at the list from the adult lists: Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Usher, will.i.am (shocker), and Stevie Wonder,Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, and James Taylor.

There is not a single non-obvious pick. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Bono and Bruce and (early) Stevie Wonder, for example, but that's a completely safe list.

Which is fine. He has limited inaugural capital, to coin a phrase, and this Ball isn't the place to spend it (if indeed he even likes DZ.)

I guess my beef with the comment is, if the Obama kids are fans of Miley and the Jonas Brothers, why bag the choice? Bad choices by the Grammys, SXSW, ACL, I can care about -- I find it hard to care about an Inaugural Ball list.

Fair enough. But I bet they'd dig other stuff and it'd be a chance to emphasize the independent world.

(I'm also surprised at the other picks, which I should have mentioned.)
