The City That Never Sleeps Kinda Keeps Us Up Too
Well, our first day in the city yesterday was fun. Dena and the kids went to a big photo of sock knitters (it's complicated) in Central Park, and then I met up with them at the Museum of Natural History, after stopping by to see a friend from when I was in practice. The museum was wonderful; we spent most of our time on the fourth floor, with the dinosaurs. I love the organization -- by evolutionary trait -- and the presentation. Ella says she wants to work there.
Then Dena went off to a reading by a knitter (The Yarn Harlot) while the kids and I went to dinner. I found a directory of kid-friendly restaurants and a nearby place was reported to have over a hundred kinds of crepes. We're all about crepes so that sounded good, so we walked over there. Turns out the menu is not so much the way it was, so they had like three kinds of crepes. Still, one was crepes with maple syrup, so they had that and I had some yummy lobster ravioli and a pomengranate (sp?) margarita. Walked back to the hotel, read two chapters of Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and went to sleep.
Eventually.
Our hotel, the Travel Inn on west 42nd, is clean and a good value (especially with free parking) but our room, facing 42nd, is not quiet. But the kids (having probably walked 2 or 3 miles during the day) went to sleep fast, and I got to sleep pretty soon too.
Today: knitting exhibit at the Museum of Art and Design, probably the Central Park Zoo, and a party!

Enjoy New York and the show! FWIW, almost all New York restaurants are kid-friendly, at least for lunch/brunch, and everything I saw in Brooklyn seemed equally kid-friendly. (The best place--SQC--shut down because it was too popular, like a month before my daughter was old enough to eat solids. He had a children's menu that included home-made baby purees.)
Be sure to tell Dena to check out my friend's knitting blog: http://puttermeister.blogspot.com
I'm just saying.
Happy travels to all you Childseseses.
