The Archives

I think I got all of the archives reposted and relinked. Let me know if you come across any links that don't work.

A bunch of our older shows in the archives have gone away due to the evident collapse of BlipMedia, who we were using to host them. We do have all of the shows recorded still, but will need to take the time to upload them to our host, which may take a while.

When you're in the archives (the link is over there on the right), any that have "sparetherock.com" in the URL (basically all of them in 2006) should work. Any that have "rizzn.net" or "blipmedia.org" probably won't...

Two Little Girls Named Ella

A wonderful friend, Cynthia Gustavson, is a poet and therapist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She's started a podcast as part of her website. Her current podcast entry is dedicated to Ella and another little girl named Ella, and she's got a fascinating message and poem about the downside of (largely understandable) warnings about strangers.

Check it out.

(Note: This is a podcast for grown-ups.)

Support Great (Grown-Up) Independent Internet Radio

I've been listening to WOXY for about ten years now. It was one of the first "modern rock" stations way back in the early '80s, and it stayed one of the great alt-rock stations, resisting the weird active rock trends of the late '90s. They went internet-only in 2004, and now they need your help.

The station, despite great critical acclaim and listener loyalty, just hasn't attracted the advertisers it needs. So they've gone listener-supported, looking for $9.95/month (month-to-month, no commitments). That'll get you a great CD-quality stream of both streams (the new music, with live DJs, and the vintage station, which is automated) and knowledge that you're supporting truly independent radio.

Go check it out, listen to the free low-bandwidth stream, and give 'em some money. Please.

WOXY.com. Bam! The future of rock and roll.

Rocking Out At Flywheel

Want to see what a great time looks like? Check out these pictures from this morning's show at Flywheel!

Thanks to the folks at Flywheel, Ron Resetarits (who played a great opening act), all the participants in the knock-knock joke open mike, and the Deedle Deedle Dees for a terrific morning. We recorded all the tunes and will hopefully have some music to play from it next week.

Reminder -- Live at Flywheel Saturday!

Tomorrow's show will be a repeat of the 2005 Retrospective Show, because we will be down at Flywheel for The Deedle Deedle Dees!

Yes, that's right, it's the first live show produced (in part) by Spare the Rock, Spoil the Chlid, working with the great folks at Flywheel who have been doing the Pancake Mountain screenings and dance parties! We're hoping to make live kids' bands a regular thing, so please come down! Instructions to Flywheel are on their website, it'll be a mere $6 (2 and under free), and there will be pancakes, local music, and a knock-knock joke open mike in addition to the Dees.

And we'll return live next week -- hopefully with some of the concert recorded, too.

Steve Weeks Finalist in International Songwriting Competition

A note from friend of the show Steve Weeks:

I wanted to let you all know that my song “Kiki Kangaroo” is currently a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Given that the competition started with over 15,000 entries and is now down to 14 songs in the children’s music category, I’m very, very honored to be in the list of finalists.

Along with the main competition, ISC also has a “People’s Voice” contest that allows the public to vote for their favorite songs. If you’re interested in voting for Kiki, you can do so at their site (each person can only vote once per day). I’d be extremely grateful for any votes cast for my song.

Also, Steve sent us a new track, and we'll play it the next time we're on -- which will not be this Saturday (we'll be at the Deedle Deedle Dees show at Flywheel, and hope you will be too!) but the following week.
